The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Operations, has a part-time vacancy in Salem, NH for DMV Lobby Security Guard (Security Officer II), SOC Title 33-9030 SEC GDS-GMBLG INV-L3. This position is part-time, cannot exceed 29.5 hours per week and does not offer health insurance benefits.
Summary:
To provide security coverage at various Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) locations by monitoring lobby activities and facilitating the enforcement of Federal, State, and local laws and departmental policies and procedures, ensuring the control and safety of staff and customers.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 1 year of education and experience after completion of high school.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.
Other Requirements:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Customer service experience, interpersonal skills, problem solving, and ability to deescalate are preferred.
AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:Must possess or successfully complete a Defense Driving Course as approved by the New Hampshire Safety Council within the first six (6) months of employment.

Responsibilities:
Monitors customer flow and activity and maintains lobby security and safety at DMV facilities throughout the State.
Conducts patrols and inspects buildings, grounds and parking lots to detect safety hazards, suspicious activities and/or potential threats to local office property, staff and/or clients.
Responds to fire alarms, emergencies and potentially hostile situations and assists customers, staff and law enforcement agencies with agitated customers and/or visitors.
Reports potential threats to the Director, Deputy Director and law enforcement as appropriate. Communicates with law enforcement in matters requiring a police response, including coordination with law enforcement to facilitate enforcement of state and federal laws.
Prepares written reports such as daily logs and incident reports relating to security and safety matters.
Directs the public by identifying local office designated entry point(s), communicating contact person/department, or area required, and providing general information and/or instruction.
Provides assistance to clients, staff, the public and responding emergency units during the evacuation of buildings due to fire, bomb threats or other emergencies.
Maintains professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with policies. Demonstrates strong interpersonal and analytical skills and utilizes de-escalation techniques as needed or required to ensure a safe environment.
Travels to various DMV substations as needed.

- Must pass a fingerprint based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
- A thorough character investigation and reference check will be made before appointment. Candidates who do not have good character or a conviction free record of serious offenses will be ineligible for appointment.
- May be required to work a flexible schedule including, but not limited to, early morning, evening and/or weekend hours.
- May be required to travel throughout the State and work at various satellite offices for periods of time.
- May be required to stand for prolonged periods of time. Must maintain a professional appearance in accordance with applicable DOS policies.
