Position Description
This full-time Therapeutic Recreational Specialist 1 position is within Dini Townsend Hospital working a Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. schedule. This position requires a working knowledge of theories and practices of recreational therapy/leisure activities; applicable state/federal laws/regulations, and procedures related to recreational therapy. Experience working in a mental health facility is preferred.
Incumbents plan, organize, coordinate, and conduct a wide variety of therapeutic activities such as basketball, volleyball, and strength training and therapeutic art activities for group and individual treatment sessions. Incumbents perform initial and periodic assessments, treatment planning, and therapeutic activities to provide support for improvement in one or more of the following recreation therapy domains: cognitive, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual. Incumbents observe patients during activities in order to evaluate performance; compare the level of functioning to assess progress; modify activities to accommodate individual needs; and evaluate and revise treatment plan goals, objectives, interventions.
This position requires certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in therapeutic recreation, recreation, or specialty area, such as art, dance, music or physical education and one year of technical experience in recreation therapy in a clinical, residential, community-based and/or correctional environment; OR certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC); OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements
- A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
- Certification through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification as required by the agency for accreditation by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Hospitals or other accrediting body is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
- A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends and some holidays.
- A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
