Position Description
Railroad Restoration Specialists restore and maintain vintage railroad rolling stock which includes locomotives and steam-powered engines and passenger and freight cars.
This is a full-time permanent position within the Department of Tourism & Cultural Affairs, Division of Museums & History at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City. The position supports a broad range of activities at the museum including but not limited to:restoration of historic railroad locomotives and rolling stock, on-going maintenance of the operating railroad locomotives and passenger cars, and maintaining the railroad's right-of-way. The incumbent must be able to achieve OSHA certification and with training, be certified as a railroad track inspector, railroad conductor, and locomotive engineer meeting requirements of the Federal Raildoad Administration. Skills with trades such as diesel engine repair, mechanical, electrical, wood and metal work are crucial for success.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of journey level experience in a wood related occupation such as carpentry or framing or in a metal related occupation such as welding, fabrication, or machining, one year of which included experience in railroad restoration activities; OR two years of experience as a Railroad Restoration Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Informational Notes
- One year of education above the high school level in a related trade or vocational program may be substituted for one year of experience, up to two years.

- A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
- Flexible and/or rotating shifts are required.
- This position may require work on nights/weekends/holidays.
- This position requires valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
