The Position
Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
NDOT is seeking a Digital Communications Specialist (PIO II) to serve as a leader and content developer for its digital presence to include NDOT's website and social media accounts. The incumbent will receive support from, and supervise, a multimedia team of two staff members. The Digital Communications Specialist will create engaging content, track metrics, develop strategies for different social media platforms, ensure accuracy of information, write content and ensure website ADA compliance. The incumbent will have exceptional writing skills and experience working with a CMS (i.e. WordPress, Granicus) and HTML. The Digital Media Specialist also interacts with the public on social media in a highly professional manner as a representative of NDOT. This position also involves posting content during rare emergencies with urgency. Utilizing knowledge of graphic design principles, the successful candidate will ensure the multimedia team creates high-quality designs for online and print. The Digital Communications Specialist will work with internal stakeholders to develop the most effective ways to communicate information on NDOT's projects, studies and programs on the website and through all other digital means. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and three years of professional experience in administering or directing a public information program including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing and presenting speeches and multimedia presentations, independent media contact, development of public relations strategies and journalistic writing; OR one year of experience as a Public Information Officer I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The incumbent may be required to work a flexible shift, to possibly include some weekends.

A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
