The Position
Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVACR) Specialist's perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City, NV is now hiring for an HVACR Specialist 2. HVACR Specialists are responsible for the preventative and routine maintenance of HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, exhaust fans, temperature controls and systems, and operation of building automation systems which control the HVAC systems. Incumbents must be able to sweat and/or braze fittings, tubing, and equipment, use electrical testing equipment, read schematics and blueprints, and supervise inmate workers. Incumbents make parts and material purchases and maintain inventories and maintenance records. Incumbents function as a lead worker for inmate crews on a regular basis and provide input as to their performance. Incumbents are responsible for maintaining security procedures which include securing the work area from unauthorized inmates and accountability for assigned inmates, staff, tools and equipment. Work Shift/Posts: Typically, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but extended hours and overtime may be required on short notice in cases of emergency. License or Certifications Required: EPA certification to recover refrigerant and recharge equipment. A valid Nevada driver's license is required.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; OR one year of experience as a HVACR Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
Journey level experience is gained after the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or after four years of skilled work in a trade under the supervision of a journey level trades worker.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
This position requires the incumbent to be EPA certified to recover refrigerant and recharge equipment.
