The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff, or they coordinate and provide statewide health-related training programs.
This position is based at Florence McClure Women's Correctional Center in Las Vegas, NV. Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act and Nevada Revised Statutes. This is a supervisory position that requires a high level of independence. NDOC is looking for a team member with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability that is highly independent, with excellent communication, critical thinking and decision-making skills, able to effectively adapt to changing situations and make quick accurate medical decisions under pressure. Incumbent must possess leadership skills and be able to lead the medical team independently in the absence of the Director of Nursing Services. As first-line supervisor responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, providing evaluation and resolution of patient medical needs, providing work assignments, training, supervision, evaluation, counseling, and discipline to assigned staff, assist with inmate grievances, participation in supervisory meetings.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
License as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment.
As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
