Emergency Management Officer I - Preparedness Officer

This is entry-level professional emergency management work involving preparedness planning, training, exercise support, technical assistance, and emergency response coordination. The incumbent assists with developing and maintaining emergency management plans, coordinating and instructing training activities, supporting all-hazards exercises, providing program assistance to local officials and stakeholders, and participating in emergency activations as needed.

Examples of work include assisting with the development, maintenance, and evaluation of emergency management plans; scheduling, coordinating, and instructing emergency management training courses; participating in workshops, conferences, meetings, and preparedness activities; developing and facilitating disaster preparedness exercises; identifying gaps in plans, training, or exercises; providing technical assistance to local officials, whole-community partners, and stakeholders; supporting compliance with state and federal emergency management guidelines; maintaining records, reports, and correspondence; tracking fiscal expenditures as required; using Microsoft Office software to prepare documents and reports; supporting emergency activations; traveling as needed; and performing related duties as assigned.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree;

High school graduation or equivalent and 0-2 years of experience.
