This is a ten month per year position; the work schedule follows the school calendar. Summer hours for IFSP services and 3 week ESY may be needed. This position is being posted for internal bidders and for outside applicants simultaneously; this job is first open to employees of this agency who possess Minnesota Speech Language Pathology licensure and are eligible to bid.  Other qualified applicants will be considered if there are no eligible bidders.

This position will function as the Speech-Language Pathologist at the Minnesota State Academies on both campuses (MSAB and MSAD). Duties include:

  • Helping students develop skills and confidence in communicating with other individuals
  • Ability to provide individualized and group intervention addressing articulation, expressive and receptive language, pragmatic language, and alternative or augmentative communication needs
  • Participate in the due process by attending meetings and writing IFSP outcomes and/or IEP goals and objectives based on evaluation results
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and build positive relationships with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to work effectively with students who present complex learning, communication, sensory, or behavioral needs, using evidence-based and developmentally appropriate practices
  • Familiarity with assistive technology, alternative communication systems, and accommodations that support equitable access to communication and learning
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive practices and experience supporting diverse learners and families

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Affairs or the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • Current Minnesota Speech-Language Pathologist license through PELSB or ability to obtain license by the start date
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the required level (as measured by SLPI evaluation).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of speech and language development, speech and hearing science, and the evaluation and treatment of communication disorders
  • Experience completing speech and language evaluations, writing reports, and participating in IFSP and IEP development in in compliance with state and federal due process requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, DeafBlind, Blind, or Visually Impaired students, including students with additional disabilities
  • Fluent or Advanced level proficiency in American Sign Language
  • Experience providing services in specialized educational settings, including residential or statewide programs
  • Experience providing consultative services to teachers and staff to support communication strategies across educational settings

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and be able to sit, stand, walk throughout the workday

Additional Requirements

  • Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months
