This position is first open to employees of this agency who are in the Special Education Program Assistant (SEPA) classification and are eligible to bid. Other qualified applicants will be considered after the list of qualified bidders has been exhausted.

THIS IS A 10-MONTH PER YEAR POSITION - SCHEDULE IS BASED ON THE SCHOOL CALENDAR

  • This is a 36.5 hour/week position. The incumbent in this position will provide paraprofessional academic classroom instruction or student management aide support at the Minnesota State Academies. Contributes to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs for deaf/hard of hearing students. Provides educational instruction and use a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors. Perform related work as required.
  • Positions at the State Academy for the Deaf require signing skills. Candidates will be assessed for signing skills prior to hire.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota) through an accredited institution of higher education; or

An associate’s or higher degree; or

A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Paraeducator) demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics or readiness for each.

  • Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dorm setting or a similar setting as a caregiver.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language

Preferred Qualifications

  • knowledge or experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students.
  • Knowledge of data practices as it relates to work in the social/human services field.
  • Demonstration of advanced sign language
  • Ability to perform emergency procedures and personal safety techniques.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and be able to sit, stand and walk throughout the day

Additional Requirements

  • Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months
