Job Summary

Job Duties:
This temporary (summer months) Laborer General position in Surveys will assist survey crew in performing routine survey activities so that project needs are met. This is a position in which the employee will work outside in the field on a daily basis, performing physical labor in all kinds of weather along the right of way, in ditches and in the roadway. The work includes construction staking, assisting in gathering and converting field data accurately, setting up and maintaining various types of survey equipment, assisting in photo control surveys, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify, Laborer General applicants must meet all the following:
- Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in outdoor maintenance and construction work.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor work sufficient to complete assignments.
- Strength and agility necessary to bend, lift, dig, reach, and load heavy materials.
- Endurance necessary to perform indoor and outdoor tasks under extreme environmental conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
- Valid Class D Driver’s License.
- Ability to understand oral directions sufficient to carry out verbal assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Student Worker, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist
- Previous Survey or mapping experience
- Experience using basic hand tools
- Knowledge of Trimble data collectors, Total Stations, and GPS receivers
