The Minnesota Department of Direct Care & Treatment (DCT) is seeking dependable and enthusiastic individuals to join our agency as a Security Counselor (Minnesota Sex Offender Program) or Forensic Support Specialist (Forensic Mental Health Program). This position will provide facility security and/or residential care to individuals within one of the following programs at our St. Peter campus:

The Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP)* is for individuals who have completed their prison sentences and are civilly committed by the courts and placed in sex offender treatment for an indeterminate period of time.

The Forensic Mental Health Program (FMHP)* provides psychiatric evaluation and treatment services to individuals diagnosed with a mental illness who present a risk to public safety.

Responsibilities of a Security Counselor or Forensic Support Specialist include:

  • Providing informal counseling;
  • Implementing treatment plans;
  • Observing and documenting client behavior;
  • Encouraging client participation in program activities;
  • Providing security and verbal and/or physical crisis intervention.

This announcement will be used to fill multiple permanent, full-time, part-time, and intermittent (on-call) vacancies within the Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP)* and Forensic Mental Health Program (FMHP)* in St. Peter. Shift may be day shift, evening shift, rotating (day/evening) shift, or overnight shift. Employment conditions and shifts are subject to availability.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Have a HS diploma or GED;
  • Be at least 18 years of age;

AND

  • At least ONE of the following in order to qualify for further consideration:
    • One or more years of full-time work experience in ANY field; OR
    • Two or more years of part-time work experience in ANY field

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate's degree or higher in a related field of study, such as Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or other.
  • Experience working in a secured facility monitoring and counseling a similar client and patient population as the Minnesota Sex Offender Program or Forensic Mental Health Program.

REFERENCE/BACKGROUND CHECKS - Direct Care & Treatment will conduct reference checks to verify job-related credentials and criminal background check prior to appointment.

EDUCATION VERIFICATION - Applicants will be required to provide a copy of their high school diploma at time of interview OR copies of their college transcript or college degree/diploma at time of interview. Copies of the college degree/diploma are acceptable ONLY if it clearly identifies the field in which it was earned.

Direct Care & Treatment (DCT) healthcare facilities require employees to provide documentation that they are free from tuberculosis (TB) through a blood test prior to employment. DCT does not accept TB skin testing.
