The Comptroller’s General Accounting Division is looking for a Fiscal Accounts Clerk Supervisor to join our Payment Processing team.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and detailed oriented, with exceptional time-management and customer service skills. As a control agency, the General Accounting Division is a part of the State of Maryland Comptroller’s Office. The General Accounting Division provides accounting and fiscal support services to state agencies and the public while assisting the State Comptroller with meeting their Constitutional responsibilities.

The General Accounting Division consists of Vendor Services, Financial Reporting, Office Systems and Design, and Payment Processing. Payment Processing consists of two sections, Audit, and the Front Desk. This position is located within the Front Desk section of Payment Processing. The Front Desk section is responsible for the facilitation and distribution of special handling checks to vendors. Other responsibilities include handling warrants and answering calls from vendors and agencies. It requires strict adherence to internal controls to ensure the secure management of vendor checks. This department requires the management of competing priorities and time sensitive payments, involving close collaboration with peers, unit managers, and state agencies to assist vendors of the State of Maryland in obtaining proper and timely payments consistent with state law, regulation, and policy. It provides guidance and support to all accounts payable operations within state agencies.

Please Note: This role is performed exclusively in-person with remote exceptions that maybe authorized during events such as declared emergencies and inclement weather that closes state buildings.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions.

Notes

  • Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.
  • Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • A minimum of five courses or six months of accounting-related training in a vocational training program in subjects such as journalizing transactions, analyzing transactions into debits and credits, posting to a general ledger, payroll, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.
  • For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalence evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html.
