Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to support the Community Health Services Bureau's Health Education Section by planning, developing, implementing, promoting and evaluating community health education programs designed to further public awareness and understanding of factors influencing health status and community health activities and services. This position will conduct community needs assessments. This position will develop and disseminate culturally and linguistically appropriate educational materials. This position will coordinate outreach activities and events to engage diverse populations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education : A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience : One year of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects.

Notes

  • Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects for the required education and experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Desired Or Preferred Qualifications

The desired candidate should possess the following: 1. Experience developing and/or leading chronic disease education classes. 2. Bilingual in Spanish and English (written and spoken). 3. Experience performing medical clerical work. 4. Experience working in public or community health.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
