POSITION DUTIES
The work of an Administrative Officer I involves management systems analysis performed at the headquarters of a secretariat level department or independent agency. Employees in this classification perform analyses of complex managerial policies, practices, methods, agency programs, organizations, procedures, and other functions of management in order to prepare management reports.
Specific Activities Will Include
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES
The work of an Administrative Officer I involves management systems analysis performed at the headquarters of a secretariat level department or independent agency. Employees in this classification perform analyses of complex managerial policies, practices, methods, agency programs, organizations, procedures, and other functions of management in order to prepare management reports.
Specific Activities Will Include
- Provides administrative support to one or more officials, administrators or administrative staff;
- Reads reports and summarizes information to facilitate the supervisor's review;
- Prepares and maintains statistical and numerical reports and records;
- Prepares and submits claims to Medicaid for reimbursement;
- Learns to plan and conduct work measurement studies by analyzing workload data and use of resources;
- Learns to conduct studies and analyses of agency programs, organizations, procedures or systems in-house or in conjunction with the work of management consultants;
- Learns to collect, compile and organize source data and information;
- Learns to prepare statistical tables and charts, work flow charts, staffing patterns and organization charts;
- Consults with higher-level Management Specialists about policies, trends, interpretations of data and program needs;
- Learns to recommend improved operational procedures and control measures to insure improved administration of programs and effective use of resources;
- Learns to plan special projects to obtain information useful in the decision-making process;
- Learns to assist in the planning of new or revised programs, evaluation methods, procedures, practices, and organizational structures;
- Learns to assist in the evaluation of existing or proposed programs.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes
- Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
- Experience managing data and developing spreadsheets
- Experience communicating with leadership across departments (i.e. Correctional facilities, ITCD, Inter-office units)

- Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
- Annual Leave - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year
