LOCATION OF POSITION

The position of Maryland State Police Trooper is a State-wide position. Troopers may be assigned and reassigned to any county within the State of Maryland. In order to apply, you must be willing to work in any Maryland county. *Please note, to apply you DO NOT have to be a resident of Maryland. However, all applicants selected and hired for the position of Trooper will be required to be a resident of Maryland prior to the graduation of the six (6) month MSP academy.

Maryland State Police offers a full range of police services to the residents of Maryland. The basic duties and responsibilities of every Maryland State Trooper include: •\tEnforcing the criminal and motor vehicle laws of the State of Maryland •\tIssuing traffic citations and warnings •\tInvestigating traffic accidents Investigating and completing criminal investigations •\tInterviewing witnesses, victims and suspects •\tWriting field reports •\tArresting and processing suspects •\tPreparing cases for court and testifying in court •\tProviding basic medical attention to ill and injured persons

SELECTION PROCESS

The entire Maryland State Police trooper application process generally takes six (6) months to complete. The application process is designed to help select those applicants who are most qualified. Below you will find an overview of the process. Please note, it is the goal of the Maryland State Police to hire applicants who possess the qualifications and the dedication to become a Maryland State Police Trooper. Please understand that if you successfully complete all phases of this process, you MAY receive a Final Offer of Employment. Trooper candidates are hired based upon the needs of the Department.
