The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) serves as one of the largest revenue sources for the State of Maryland, supporting important state programs and services including education, public health and safety, human resources and the environment. In addition to generating revenue from the sale of lottery products, the MLGCA is also responsible for the oversight of the state’s casino gaming program, providing direction and guidance to its casino partners on financial, security, regulatory and licensing procedures for the facilities. The Agency also regulates Sports Wagering, Daily Fantasy Sports and Electronic Bingo, as well as Instant Ticket Lottery Machines, which are located at almost 90 Veteran’s posts. Main Purpose of Job
The senior communications manager assists the department’s directors with the division’s workflow as it relates to writing and messaging. The job involves assigning, editing and writing press releases about Maryland Lottery winners and other news and events for the agency website, internal and external newsletter content, agency-wide communications and additional messaging as needed. The employee coordinates the winner experience and oversees interviews and photography of Lottery winners who visit the Lottery office in Baltimore to claim their prizes. The senior communications manager plans, writes and manages the production of 10 newsletters per year: six employee newsletters and four Lottery retailer newsletters that are focused on sales and product news. The senior communications manager serves as the Communication’s Division’s primary liaison to the Lottery’s Sales and Product Development staffs in order to produce the retailer newsletters, as well as the writing and posting of articles, fliers, videos and photos on the retailer component of the Lottery website as directed by the Sales Division. The employee writes and posts events listings and event photo galleries on the Lottery website. The employee supports the mission of the agency by promoting the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency in a positive light, increasing and enhancing public awareness of and education about the Lottery, its products and promotions and its brand image with the ultimate goal of increasing revenue for the State of Maryland.
POSITION DUTIES
- Helps to manage the workflow of writing, editing and messaging for the Maryland Lottery as it pertains to sales and revenue, products and promotions, winner awareness, Lottery initiatives and brand image.� � - Manages the winner interview process and news release writing and editing for 650 Lottery winners annually by ensuring that members of the writing team are completing work in a timely manner. This includes maintaining the appearance of the Winner’s Circle room and photo props, welcoming winners, assigning writing team to interviews, drafting and editing copy within a short timeframe for media and online dissemination as well as editing winner photos. - Interviews Lottery winners and writes their stories for publication on mdlottery.com and distribution to media outlets. - Oversees all aspects of producing two agency newsletters:� Retailer Report (quarterly) and Lottery Gazette (every other month). Conceptualizes, writes, and assigns articles and coordinates photo assignments, works with a graphic designer on the production. Distributes both newsletters by email and via online posts on Retailer Corner. - Maintains game-specific news release templates for the writing team and multiple logs of top prizes in key games.� - Oversees the production of press releases pertaining to Lottery products, promotions, initiatives and/or branding messages, as well as broad-scope initiatives by gathering information, drafting and editing. - Writes, updates and maintains content on Retailer Corner, the retailer portion of the Lottery website. - Assists with Agency photo gallery organization and updates, coordinating new photos including employee headshots, winners’ photos, internal and external event photos, internal and external newsletter photos; assists with photo file organization. - Writes all-agency announcements: Writes and distributes agency-wide emails announcing significant events.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: Five years of administrative staff or professional work. Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience. 2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience. 3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience. 4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.
