LOCATION OF POSITION

DGS - MD Capitol Police (Baltimore City) – 301 W. Preston Street� (Anne Arundel County) – 29 St. Johns Street However, more positions may become available throughout the State of Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

A Building Security Officer II is the advanced level of work responsible for the safety and security of persons, equipment and facilities at the Annapolis or Baltimore State Office Complexes. This is an Emergency Essential position subject to emergency release procedures. Employees in this position must be willing and available for duty at all hours, day or night, and are required to remain or report for duty at all hours as needed to maintain the continuous operation of this agency. Shift assignments are subject to change based on staffing requirements and business demands. Management will make every effort to provide advance notice of any schedule changes. Employees are responsible for transportation to and from the workplace.� If you are the selected candidate for this position, you will be required to complete a Pre-Employment Physical, which will assess your ability to safely perform the essential functions of this position.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties for the Building Security Officer II position include, but are not limited to:� -�Provide professional customer service by screening employees, visitors, and contractors while controlling access to State facilities. -�Patrol assigned buildings and grounds to monitor security, identify safety hazards, and report suspicious activity, incidents, or equipment malfunctions. -�Perform routine security, fire, and safety inspections to help maintain a safe and secure environment for employees and the public. -�Operate security equipment, such as x-ray machines and metal detectors, and assist with pedestrian safety as assigned. -�Comply with all applicable laws, policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines while supporting the Maryland Capitol Police's mission to protect State-owned and managed facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�� Ability to read and write. Experience: Two years of experience in building security work. Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Master-At-Arms classifications or law enforcement specialty codes in the site security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding all qualifications. -�Preference will be given to candidates who have graduated from an accredited high school or possess a high school equivalency certificate. -�Candidates with more than two years of building security experience are preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day�and, therefore, will be required to provide the employer with a telephone number where they can be reached. 2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

Please note, selected candidates may be required to complete and successfully pass a State and Federal fingerprint background check prior to being hired. You must be legally authorized under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.
