Job Duties and Other Information
- Provides comprehensive nursing care across public health programs including Reproductive Health (Family Planning and STD/HIV), WIC, Tuberculosis, and Immunizations using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Performs clinical assessments and delivers patient care according to physician and advanced practice provider standing orders, including obtaining medical histories, conducting examinations, and administering appropriate treatments.
- Conducts laboratory testing such as Syphilis IgG, HIV, hemoglobin, pregnancy tests, and urine screenings; prepares specimens for shipment, reviews results, and coordinates necessary clinical follow-up and case management.
- Utilizes electronic health records (EHR) and other program databases to accurately document patient encounters, maintain clinical records, and assist nurse practitioners during scheduled clinics.
- Monitors tuberculosis patients in home and clinic settings, administers directly observed therapy, conducts monthly symptom reviews, and performs T-spot testing for patients and contacts.
- Provides patient education, counseling, immunization screening and administration, and disease prevention guidance while coordinating referrals to appropriate healthcare providers or community resources.
- Supports public health operations by coordinating STD clinic activities, completing quality assurance reports and audits, and participating in emergency preparedness training, disaster response, and medical special needs shelter or POD operations as needed.
