Minimum Qualifications

No experience or training is required.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties:

Job Duties and Other Information

  • Patrol Port facilities, waterways, roadways, and critical infrastructure to enforce laws, deter criminal activity, respond to emergencies, investigate incidents, and maintain public safety and security.
  • Perform specialized marine law enforcement and emergency response duties by operating on Port vessels, assisting with firefighting, rescue operations, first aid, security sweeps, and maintaining required boat and firefighting certifications.
  • Support Harbor Police operations by documenting vessel movements, completing investigative reports, and serving as a police dispatcher when assigned, including dispatching units, monitoring surveillance systems, and verifying warrants through law enforcement databases.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Police Officer 1 or Police Officer 2

Work Schedule: 12 hour shifts

Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of up to $3.00 per hour.
