Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Repairer to join our team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the safety, functionality, and daily operations of our facility. We are looking for a motivated individual with hands-on experience in general maintenance, repairs, and facility upkeep who is ready to contribute to a mission-driven environment.Why work for DOC?

Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; ORCompletion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR
Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.
Job Duties:
- Performs minor repairs and maintenance on navigational locks, including replacing hydraulic hoses, inspecting components for wear, and ensuring proper operation to support safe and efficient facility functions.
- Maintains and repairs a wide range of motorized equipment, conducting tasks such as tune-ups, troubleshooting mechanical issues, replacing or adjusting worn or damaged parts (carburetors, generators, alternators, starters, pumps, brake linings/pads, etc.), and performing limited disassembly of major components (engines, transmissions, final drives) to assess damage and determine required repairs.
- Executes general building and facility repairs, including work on interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, HVAC systems, and related mechanical components. Duties may involve plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and other trades necessary to maintain a safe, functional, and well-operating correctional environment.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: CLASSIFIED WAE
- This position is a ‘when actually employed’ (WAE) position without benefits. Employee will work 29 hours/week.
