OUR MISSION
Our mission is to ensure the physical and operational integrity of the regional flood risk management system in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state, and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.
ABOUT THIS POSITION
The Administrative Assistant to the Board of Commissioners serves as the primary support liaison among the SLFPA-East Board, executive leadership, and members of the community—facilitating seamless communication, coordination, and documentation of all Board-related activities. This position reports to the Executive Counsel to the Board. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills, possess strong organizational abilities, ensure strict adherence to applicable policies and procedures, and consistently maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Three years of experience in administrative services; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

  • Ensures Board and Committee meetings and public hearings comply with the Louisiana Open Meetings Law, the Board’s Bylaws and Policies, and other applicable statutory requirements. 
  • Serves as parliamentarian to the Board and its Committees. Ensure Board meeting compliance with Robert’s Rules of Order.
  • Research changes to Louisiana Revised Statutes, as well as Federal, State, local and other requirements, that impact the agency and or the Board’s responsibilities. 
  • Prepares official notices and agendas for the Board of Commissioners and its Committees and ensure notifications are made in accordance with the Open Meetings Law, Bylaws, and other requirements
  • May assist with document inventory management of historical documents and work with the agency’s retention coordinator for disposal.
Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type:   Probational - up to 24 months

Career Progression:  This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position (40-hour work week); it offers a flexible work schedule – you can choose to work five 8-hour days, four 10-hour days or four 9-hour days and a 4-hour day. 

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Full-time employees are eligible for a compressive benefits package, including participation in the state’s retirement plan, health insurance, agency-paid short-term disability coverage, paid holidays, and paid annual and sick leave.
