By joining our Traffic Engineering & Permits Section as a Highway Traffic Technician III in Hopkins County, you’ll have the opportunity to oversee and inspect the work of contractors installing or repairing traffic signals or lighting devices. Perform qualified work on all critical electrical traffic control devises, including conflict monitor programming and repair of railroad preemption and emergency vehicle preemption systems.

Summary of Responsibilities:
- Repairs energized electrical items. Repairs critical items that includes railroad preemption and emergency vehicle preemption systems
- Programs conflict monitors in addition to interprets error indication to identify issues with signal functionality and make necessary repairs to restore functionality should one malfunction
- Performs diagnostic tests on traffic signal controllers, emergency vehicle preemption systems, and railroad preemption systems
- Repairs traffic signals and lighting devices in the field or in the shop
- Troubleshoots malfunctioning electrical devises and recommends necessary repairs
- Traffic signal and lighting device troubleshooting and repairs
- Maintaining record on repairs
- Handling emergency situations
- Possess Certification in International Municipal Signal Association Level II or Level III training

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have five years of experience in electrical or electronic installation or electrical or electronics maintenance work.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Vocational or technical training in electricity, electronics or a related field will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must possess certification in International Municipal Signal Association Level II or Level III training. https://www.imsasafety.org/. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title perform their work at various locations throughout the district or at a highway traffic facility. Must be able to work extended hours and during inclement weather, when necessary.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
