The Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction enforces statewide standards for building construction. The Manufactured Housing Inspector is a position that serves as an integral part of the building construction process. This position is responsible for performing inspections of manufactured homes and recreational vehicles to ensure they are safe to occupy based upon certain industry standards, conducting consumer complaint investigations, and compiling inspection reports.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
The Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction enforces statewide standards for building construction. The Manufactured Housing Inspector is a position that serves as an integral part of the building construction process. This position is responsible for performing inspections of manufactured homes and recreational vehicles to ensure they are safe to occupy based upon certain industry standards, conducting consumer complaint investigations, and compiling inspection reports.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Learns to inspect the installation of new manufactured homes, life safety conditions of used manufactured homes and use of recreational vehicles.
- Investigates alleged violations and obtains information for prosecution of offenders, assisting with approved legal actions resulting from complaints and investigations.
- Attends meetings and training sessions.
- Proficient communication skills.
- Possess sufficient technical knowledge of construction practices and techniques.
- Proven abilities to manage multiple projects.
- Conduct effective code research.
- Demonstrate attention to detail.
- High level of customer service.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of manufactured/commercial/residential housing structural inspection, mechanical trades inspection, or installation experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional technical training in one of the above fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above fields will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Frequent travel is required to peform inspections.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
