Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This is a Social Work Specialist position in the Sexual Predator Treatment Program (SPTP). The mission of the SPTP is to promote safety for the community as well as to promote the welfare of the program’s residents in a manner that fosters reintegration into a safe and stable environment for all Kansans.

Job Description: Collects, evaluates, and documents social history and assessment information. Gathers information from all available sources to formulate a Psychosocial Assessment using approved social work methods and techniques. Social Work Specialists work with the interdisciplinary Treatment Team to assess new admissions and on an ongoing basis assess response to treatment. Completes progress notes in order to document progress made in treatment, resident’s response to treatment, involvement by family and significant others. Provides social work input into the interdisciplinary Treatment team in development, implementation, and review of treatment plans, so that needs and resources are accurately identified and addressed in treatment.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Social Work Duties:

  • Make collateral contacts (i.e. Court, CMHCs, KDADS, CDDOs, and legitimately involved others) to gather and share information pertinent to the resident’s treatment, maintaining professional standards of confidentiality.
  • Make initial contact with newly admitted residents to identify and implement indicated social services.
  • Assur resident’s right are provided to assigned residents and documentation is completed.
  • Provide resident/family education specific to Social Services role and indicated treatment.
  • Explain legal status to residents and families, as indicated.
  • The individual in this position has access to Protected Health Information (PHI) under the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA). PHI must be safeguarded and released in accordance with the provisions of the HIPPA Privacy regulations, State Law, and Federal Law.
  • Provide supportive counseling to residents and family members, as needed.
  • Assist with in-person and electronic visitation.
  • Assist with State ID card coordination.
  • Maintain communication with Parole and/or Probation Officers, as necessary.

Documentation:

  • Complete Psychosocial Assessments in collaboration with Treatment Team members.
  • Document Social Services treatment course and progress in treatment in accordance with department and agency standards.
  • Document family contacts.

Treatment Team Duties:

  • Develop treatment plans in collaboration with the resident, legitimately involved others, and the Treatment Team.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary Treatment Team meetings to assess resident’s treatment progress and identify treatment needs in compliance with LSH and SPTP policies and procedures and State/Federal Mandates.
  • Provide Court Testimony to fact.
  • Share pertinent information vital to resident treatment and discharge.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Attend LSH team meetings, program meetings, and other meetings as assigned/needed.
  • Participate n performance improvement projects, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by Social Work Director, Assistant Clinical Program Director, and Clinical Program Director of the Sexual Predator Treatment Program.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At the time of appointment, eligible candidates for this position must possess a Licensed Bachelor Level Social Worker (LBSW) License, or temporary license (LBSW-T). Students currently enrolled in an accredited social work program who have applied to take the licensure exam will be considered.
  • Some positions require an approved drug test unless the incumbent is moving from one safety-sensitive position to another safety-sensitive position within the same agency performing substantially similar duties.
  • CPI Certification within one month of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Ability to obtain a BSW temporary or permanent license by the State of Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board to practice Social Work at the Bachelor’s level.
  • CPI Certification within one month of employment and maintain certification throughout employment (will be provided in New Employee Orientation)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years’ experience providing mental health services and two (2) years’ experience working in an inpatient psychiatric setting.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a KBI background and pre-employment drug test.
