Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The psychologist in this position provides a full array of psychological services (e.g. assessment, evaluation, treatment planning, treatment services including individual and group therapy). The psychologist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide evaluation and treatment services for adult (aged 18 years and older) inpatient forensic patients. This psychologist will be expected to serve as a resource to the treatment teams and other psychologists for behavior management strategies and programming, and best practices for the population with which she/he works. This psychologist will also serve as a treatment team facilitator, as needed. This psychologist must demonstrate age- and culture-specific treatment competencies and be competent in the provision of psychological services needed as described in LSH’s policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Completes forensic evaluations:

• Gathers background information of patients to formulate assessments and evaluations.
• Performs testing and diagnostic/mental status interviews of patients.
• Makes formal forensic decisions and completes forensic evaluations, as assigned.
• Complete forensic reports as assigned.
• Ensures reports conform to supervisory and LSH policy expectations

Provides coverage for unit psychologists as needed:

• Attends Treatment Team meetings and serves as the Treatment Team Facilitator, when needed
• Completes mental status evaluations, when needed
• Provides de-escalation to patients in crisis
• Completes initial evaluations and Individualized Person Management Plans, when needed

Continues professional growth and development:

• Attends Psychology Department Meetings, in-service training sessions, and continuing education offerings, either on or off campus.
• Participates in supervision
• Maintains licensure

Other related duties:

• Serves as an expert witness in civil commitment cases and forensic cases when subpoenaed.
• Provides general hospital services by serving on committees, providing consultations or teaching as requested and giving assistance in other ways as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Masters degree in Clinical Psychology
• Licensed by the State of Kansas as a T-LMLP, LMLP, or LCP
• Some positions require an approved drug test unless the incumbent is moving from one safety-sensitive position to another safety-sensitive position within the same agency performing substantially similar duties
• CPI Certification within 30 days of employment and maintained throughout employment
