Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to oversee the daily operations of the Laundry Department which services both LSH and KDOC. This position manages the oversight of operations in the laundry services; interdepartmental and interagency communication; policy development and implementation; verification of regulations and standards met as outlined by entities such as KDHE, CMS, TJC, etc.; conducts interdepartmental training; and oversight of the KDOC inmate workers. Additionally, this position is part of the Support Services Executive Committee (SSEC) and contributes to the assessment and modifications made to help improve the daily functioning of the state hospital.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Department Operations and Leadership
- Oversees Laundry Department staff and supervisors; provides coaching, training, mentoring, and performance guidance.
- Coordinates department production, staffing, quality control, washing procedures, chemical usage, infection-control practices, and daily workflow.
- Develops, updates, and enforces department policies, procedures, and forms.
- Ensures compliance with KDADS, State of Kansas, life-safety, Fire Marshal, TJC/CMS, infection-control, and other applicable requirements.
- Identifies operational, safety, quality, and compliance concerns and assists with corrective or improvement plans.
- Conducts department meetings, participates in SSEC, committees, and performance-improvement activities, and supports organizational initiatives.
- Coordinates with KDOC regarding inmate labor, including orientation, training, work assignments, performance concerns, inmate counts, and disciplinary documentation.
Budgetary, Purchasing, and Administrative Responsibilities
- Compiles and analyzes production, linen, textile, inventory, and weight data and prepares reports for budgeting, cost accounting, staffing calculations, quotas, and operational monitoring.
- Orders and tracks department supplies, chemicals, parts, and textiles through approved purchasing systems.
- Works with vendors and contractors regarding product effectiveness, pricing, equipment troubleshooting, repairs, replacement parts, and purchasing decisions.
- Prepares or provides pricing, specifications, and supporting information for textiles, equipment, vehicles, and other departmental needs.
- Monitors expenditures, textile usage, chemical usage, and inventory needs.
- Maintains department records, reports, correspondence, training documentation, evaluations, and other required administrative records.
Laundry Services, Quality Control, and Training
- Assists with daily Laundry and Clothing Supply operations, including processing, folding, labeling, sorting, and distribution of textiles and clothing.
- Operates commercial laundry equipment and monitors finished products for quality and proper processing.
- Monitors linen rooms, inventories, unit orders, and textile condemnation for accuracy, quality, and inventory control.
- Orients and trains employees and inmate laborers on equipment, procedures, safety, and work expectations, documenting orientation and training activities appropriately.
- Coordinates laundry services with hospital programs, KDOC, vendors, contractors, and outside agencies to support efficient and timely operations.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of experience in providing direction necessary to implement the objectives of an agency, program or organizational unit. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of supervisory experience and/or laundry experience. Two years of experience with mechanical knowledge for industrial type equipment. Education may be substituted for experience as determined by the agency.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
- Ability to pass a KBI background and pre-employment drug test.
