Compensation:
- Annual Salary Range: $60,000 to $64,000 Per Year

Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Maintain the laboratory quality management system to meet ISO 17025, EPA, FDA, USDA/FSIS, NIST and related requirements. Review data and maintain records. Perform internal audits of laboratory processes for adherence to applicable quality management needs. Prepare the laboratory for external audits (ISO 17025, EPA, FDA, USDA/FSIS, and NIST, etc) as needed.
Coordinates required proficiency testing activities in the lab. Assigns quality management related tasks and evaluates work of others from a quality assurance standpoint. Continually monitors technical competency of personnel by developing/enhancing a system for documenting qualifications, experience, training, authorizations, and any required certification of individual lab personnel.
Communicates (verbal and written) effectively with the lab team, KDA regulatory program, and related stakeholders. Schedule and lead regular quality management meetings with laboratory personal to review quality issues and discuss corrective actions / preventative actions. Ensures SOPs, methods, testing procedures and test result reporting meet lab quality assurance standards.
Attend professional development conferences and/or continuing education seminars as necessary. Fosters a positive work environment and encourages teammates to do the same. Holds personnel accountable to quality standards and laboratory expectations. Provides input on operational needs and strategic planning to fulfill agency goals and objectives.
Perform other duties as assigned. Develop and maintain a degree of lab testing proficiency in all laboratory sections and be available to perform sample preparation and laboratory analyses if needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- Professional minded individuals with at least four years of direct experience in chemistry, biology, microbiology, life sciences, agricultural sciences, or related fields are required. Candidate may also qualify through a combination of relevant education, work experience, training or certification.
Good public speaking, written and verbal communication skills.
Previous regulatory laboratory experience.
Intermediate level of knowledge and competency in Microsoft office suite including Excel spreadsheet development.
- Employee must have a valid Class C (or higher) Kansas driver’s license or equivalent license from another state. Employee is responsible to maintain an acceptable driving record to safely drive state vehicle and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
Preferred Requirements:
Training in laboratory quality assurance, particularly ISO 17025 requirements is strongly preferred.
Experience with external audits, particularly FDA, USDA/FSIS, EPA, and NIST, is preferred.
Training and/or experience with internal audits, document control, and laboratory quality assurance procedures is strongly preferred.
Some supervisory experience is also preferred.
