PSA II - PRB Administrator, Req.#222062

This position will be located at our Kansas Department of Corrections Central Office, in Shawnee County.

Starting salary for this position:
$48,963.20 ($23.54/Hourly)*

  • Offered salary will be determined by experience, qualifications, and skill set that the candidate brings to the position. Though this position is unclassified, the posted starting salary is equivalent to classified Pay Grade 29, step 6. Please contact Recruitment Coordinator for further details.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position supervises the two PRB Administrative Specialist positions and provides assistance and support to the overall operation and organization of the Prisoner Review Board at the direction of the Prisoner Review Board Chair.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:


Monitor and quality control of Prisoner Review Board Decisions/Reports

  • PRB Suitability and Revocation Hearing Decisions
  • Clemency Decisions
  • Early Discharge Requests and Decisions
  • Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) Tracking and Advising of PRB Decisions
  • Coordination of Hearings for Offenders housed out-of-state
  • Monthly Statistics
  • Prepares the PRB section of the KDOC Annual Report


Correspondence and Communication

  • Facilitates and coordinates the Public Comments Sessions
  • Responds to inquiries from stakeholders and the public
  • Responds to correspondence and grievances from Residents
  • Communicates with the Governor's office general counsel regarding Clemency inquiries


Supervision of Subordinate Staff and back-up General Administrative Duties as needed


Liaison for the Prisoner Review Board

  • Serves as the Prisoner Review Board's liaison to the KDOC Public Information Officer (PIO)
  • Prepares or assists the KDOC PIO in preparing PRB responses to media, legislative and public inquiries
  • Under the direction of the PRB Chairperson, develops, monitors and revises PRB policies and practices
  • Participates in briefings with Board members as needed
  • Acts as PRB Chair representative at KS. Sentencing Commission meetings as needed


Data Steward for the Prisoner Review Board

  • Represents the PRB Chairperson on the KDOC Change Advisory Board
  • Assesses the PRB Unit’s work with an eye toward system improvement and efficiency enhancements
  • Submits and monitors Change Request Forms for enhancements or maintenance of current programming
  • Manages the information provided on the PRB internet and intranet pages
  • Works with the PRB Chairperson in identification of unit goals, establishment of strategies to achieve identified goals and methodology for tracking and monitoring progress.
  • Lead Athena program developer and workgroup participant for the PRB


Offender Release and Transition Planning

  • Represents the Board in working with re-entry, facility and parole supervisory staff to identify strategies for ongoing improvement of release planning efforts.
  • Identifies and carries forward any system challenges experienced by the Board and works with necessary staff in the facility and parole to develop resolutions and system improvements; maintains on-going communication back to the Board regarding status of improvements and movements to correct or enhance efficiencies in these processes.
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the PRB Chairperson or other Board members with the Chairperson’s approval


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of experience in providing direction necessary to implement the objectives of an agency, program, or organizational unit. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, the behavioral sciences, law, or public administration.
  • One year experience in the field of corrections.
  • Demonstrated skill using Microsoft Office Suite – i.e. Excel, Word, Access and Outlook (including its calendar and meeting planner functions)
  • Experience with fiscal management and budget preparation
  • Experience working for/with an Executive Board
  • One year of management and/or supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated writing skills
  • Experience as a Public Information Officer (PIO) or work with the media
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must pass a criminal history records check.
