Position Details
As a member of the Iowa WORKS team, you will deliver compassionate and comprehensive case management services to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients to assess needs, identify strengths, and develop individualized employment and training plans. You will help customers navigate community resources, improve career readiness, and follow through on their goals to reach financial self-sufficiency.

Position Details
- Location: 200 Army Post Rd Des Moines, IA 50315
- Schedule: Full-time | Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Work Flexibility: Current practice allows one remote day per week and alternate schedules after successful completion of 6-month probation and training.
- Some travel is required.

Primary Responsibilities
- Human Services & Case Management - Provide ongoing case management to participants, including:
- Conduct assessments to identify barriers related to employment, education, transportation, childcare, health, or other life stability factors.
- Develop, update, and monitor individualized plans that outline clear, achievable steps toward self-sufficiency.
- Maintain detailed case documentation, including actions taken, referrals provided, participation, and progress toward goals.
- Provide consistent, personalized coaching, support, and follow-up to ensure customers stay motivated, engaged, and accountable throughout the entire process.
- Supportive Services & Resource Navigation
- Connect customers to Iowa WORKS services, community agencies, education providers, and partner organizations to address challenges.
- Employment & Training Support
- Facilitate participation in employment focused activities such as job readiness workshops, career exploration, and job search.
- Support customers pursuing education, vocational training, high school completion, or HiSET preparation.
- Collaboration & Compliance
- Partner closely with the Department of Health and Human Services and community organizations to coordinate services.
- Commitment to serving individuals from diverse backgrounds with empathy, professionalism, and cultural humility.
- Experience or interest in human services, case management, social work, employment services, or related fields.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build rapport and foster trust with customers facing varied challenges.
- Strong organization and time management skills to balance multiple cases, deadlines, and program requirements.
- Flexibility in adapting to changing program needs, customer circumstances, and agency priorities.
- Ability to utilize resources and problem solve independently.
- Skill in group facilitation or leading workshops is a plus.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field.
- Four years of full-time work experience in career services, teaching or training to improve skills, job coaching, providing human services to individuals in need, sales, customer service, call center operations, or human-resources-related services involving interviewing, reviewing job applications, conducting employment-related assessments, or job placement.
- A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number two), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes twelve months of full-time work as a Workforce Associate.
