The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Public Health, Bureau of Family Health is seeking a Public Service Manger 1 to serve as the Oral Health Section Supervisor to join our team!

This position serves as the Oral Health Section Supervisor within the Bureau of Family Health and is responsible for supervisory and managerial aspects of the section.

Management Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Priority setting
  • Cross division and agency coordination
  • Resource and budget oversight
  • Representing the section during meetings partner organizations

Policy Setting Responsibilities Include But Is Not Limited To

  • Advising the bureau chief on policy recommendations and implementation
  • Representing the bureau during legislative session in partnership with the agency legislative liaison
  • Carrying out effective implementation of administrative rules that are needed to implement section programs

Supervision Responsibilities Include

  • Supervising seven direct reports through recruitment
  • Hiring
  • Training
  • Performance evaluations
  • Promotions
  • Dismissals
  • Time reporting
  • Discipline

Selectives

535 Public Health

6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both related to improving, maintaining, and protecting the general condition of health within society, either on a personal, institutional, organizational, or community basis. Experience may be gained from direct provision of health care or from other ancillary programs and support mechanisms such as government public health departments.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and experience equal to four years of full-time work in program administration, development, management, or operations.
  • Eight years of full-time work experience in program administration, development, management, or operations.
  • All of the following (a and b):
  • Four years of full-time work experience work in program administration, development, management, or operations; and
  • A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.
  • All of the following (a, b, and c):
  • Two years of full-time work experience work in program administration, development, management, or operations; and
  • A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience; and
  • A combination of a total of two years of graduate-level education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university course work in a public-service-related area (e.g., public or business administration, social work, law, education, engineering) equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is

also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.

  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Public Service Supervisor or comparable specific management-level position.
