Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility (MPCF) is looking to hire a full-time Journeyman licensed Electrician who will be responsible for maintaining the campus electrical system, as well as low voltage systems, and equipment such as radio’s, network switches, fiber optics, etc. Journeyman’s license is required and must be able to obtain Master’s license within 2 years of hire.

Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority, persons in this class may be required to obtain a license to perform electrical work in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 103.
NOTE: A Master Electrician is preferred but must have master license within two years.
Designated positions in this class require possession of a valid Commercial Learner's Permit upon hire. Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority, a valid Commercial Driver's License with the required endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained and subsequently maintained to continue employment.

Typical Responsibilities Of An Electrician
- Read and interpret blueprints/schematics
- Install/maintain high voltage systems
- Research needed parts as well as keep an accurate inventory on hand
- Knowledge in installation of conduit
- Install/maintain low voltage systems
- Use ladders, lifts, and power equipment in a safe manner
- Maintain a neat and sanitary work environment
- Supervise/train incarcerated individuals while work is being performed
- Demonstrates electrical/electronic troubleshooting skills
- Possess a keen attention to detail and ability to effectively manage time
- Highly organized and responds well in a fast paced environment

- Three years of full-time work experience in skilled electrical work in the construction or repair of residential or commercial buildings.
- Successful completion of a standard electrician program at an accredited trade school.
- A total of three years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one semester of an approved trade school electrician program is equivalent to six months of full-time experience.
- Successful completion of three years of an approved electrician apprenticeship program.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Trades Helper which involved electrical duties.
