State of Iowa - Executive Branch
Des Moines, IA Full Time
POSTED ON 4/9/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/8/2026
Job Description

Do you want your work to make a real, tangible difference in people’s lives? The Iowa Treasurer’s Office is seeking a Digital Outreach & Engagement Specialist who is passionate about public service, skilled in communication and excited to connect directly with Iowans both digitally and in person.

This entry-level role is an opportunity to use your creativity and communication skills to promote programs like ISave 529, IAble and Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, initiatives that help Iowans save for education, achieve greater financial independence and reclaim their lost money.

Who We Are

The Iowa Treasurer’s Office manages the state’s financial resources and provides programs that directly benefit the people of Iowa. We help families save for higher education, empower individuals with disabilities through IAble, and reunite citizens with their lost property through the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt. We are proud to serve Iowans —and we’re looking for someone who shares that commitment.

What You’ll Do

  • Write with impact. Write clear, engaging content including newsletters, press releases, articles, social media posts, website updates, manuals/procedures and correspondence.
  • Share programs that matter. Create clear, engaging content that makes financial programs accessible to all Iowans.
  • Be a public voice. Represent the Treasurer’s Office at conferences, community events and outreach activities. Speaking with confidence and enthusiasm to connect with Iowans face-to-face.
  • Drive digital outreach. Manage social media platforms, craft posts and use digital tools to expand awareness of key programs.
  • Collaborate in service. Work closely with a small, mission-driven team where every member contributes to helping Iowans.
  • Evaluate and improve. Use data and feedback to strengthen both online campaigns and in-person outreach.

What We’re Looking For

  • Writing skills. Ability to produce professional, polished content across formats—press releases, newsletters, website articles, talking points, outreach materials and social media posts. Writing is a central part of this role.
  • A heart for service. You believe public service is about improving lives and making resources accessible for all.
  • Confident communicator. You’re comfortable speaking in front of both large and small groups, engaging at events, and representing the Treasurer’s Office with professionalism.
  • Creative storyteller. Skilled at making complex ideas easy to understand through writing, design, and presentation.
  • Digital and social media savvy. Comfortable using online platforms and digital tools to reach diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative learner. You thrive in a team environment and are eager to build your skills in both outreach and communications.

Why This Role Matters

Every day, Iowans are making decisions about saving for education, planning for their financial future or discovering unclaimed property that belongs to them. Your work will directly help individuals and families access these opportunities, whether it’s through a social media campaign or a conversation at a community event.

What We Offer

  • Impactful work. Contribute directly to programs that touch the lives of Iowans in meaningful ways.
  • Professional development. Grow as a communicator, digital strategist and public servant.
  • Supportive environment. Join a team dedicated to collaboration, innovation and service.
  • Benefits that support you.
  • Comprehensive health and dental insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Retirement plans (pension & deferred compensation)
  • Hybrid work opportunities after the completion of a training period
  • Competitive benefits package: Benefits beyond the Paycheck PDF (Download PDF reader) .
