Job Description

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Community Access, Bureau of Child Support Services is seeking a Child Support Case Manager (Job Classification: Child Support Recovery Officer) to join our team!

As part of our team, you will play a crucial role in establishing, enforcing, and monitoring child support and medical support orders, as well as encouraging families to provide financial and emotional support for their children.

Job Duties

  • Manage an assigned caseload, perform complex case management, prioritize tasks and time to meet performance goals and critical deadlines.
  • Communicate with customers and community partners including human service agencies, employers, clerk of court, and attorneys to achieve the goals of the Child Support Program through phone calls, emails, and written correspondence.
  • Build strong working relationships with parents to help them overcome any reluctance to cooperate with Child Support Services and programs.
  • Independently analyze a variety of complex case situations and legal scenarios to determine the appropriate action to establish, enforce, or modify support.
  • Use Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) proficiently. Having the aptitude to learn other computerized systems, including ICAR, is critically important for success in this position.
  • Comprehend and adhere to confidentiality provisions in the Code of Iowa.

Additional Requirements

  • This position requires occasional travel. A valid driver's license is required to utilize our state vehicles that may be used for travel outside of the office as needed.
  • This position requires the completion and successful passing of a level 5 FBI background check, including fingerprinting.

Davenport is a vibrant and diverse community located in Eastern Iowa along the Mississippi River. The Davenport office is located on the west side of Davenport near multiple restaurants and businesses.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in any field, and experience equal to one year of full-time public contact work.
  • A total of three years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time public contact work.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work with Child Support Services.
