Position Overview

Iowa PBS is seeking a dynamic Audience Engagement Manager to lead community engagement and outreach efforts that connect Iowa PBS with audiences, communities and organizations across the state. This role plans and coordinates events, screenings, presentations and other engagement opportunities that extend Iowa PBS’s service and reach. The position serves as a public-facing representative of Iowa PBS, building relationships with community partners and helping audiences connect with the network’s programs, services and mission.

Key Responsibilities

Audience Engagement & Outreach

  • Plan, coordinate and implement audience engagement events, program screenings, speaker events and outreach activities across Iowa.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, public and private partners, viewers and other stakeholders to expand Iowa PBS’s reach.
  • Represent Iowa PBS at community events, conferences, festivals and other public-facing activities.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including promotional materials, exhibits, equipment, supplies and on-site setup.
  • Track participation and prepare reports on audience engagement activities and outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Iowa PBS’s presence and engagement in communities across the state.

Audience Marketing & Promotion

  • Support the planning and execution of paid marketing campaigns to promote Iowa PBS programs, events, initiatives and services.
  • Develop and coordinate targeted promotional campaigns in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Execute paid advertising across appropriate digital, social, radio, television and other media channels.
  • Coordinate promotional materials and messaging for new program launches, special programming, events and audience engagement initiatives.
  • Monitor campaign performance and audience response and use results to inform future promotional efforts.

Audience & Public Engagement

  • Serve as a point of contact for viewers and community members seeking information about Iowa PBS programming, events and services.
  • Respond to public inquiries through email, phone, online platforms and other channels, referring questions to appropriate staff when needed.
  • Organize and conduct Iowa PBS facility and studio tours for community groups and other audiences.
  • Communicate Iowa PBS’s mission, services and initiatives to diverse audiences and community partners.

Partnerships & Internal Collaboration

  • Collaborate with departments across Iowa PBS to develop and support community engagement opportunities aligned with network priorities.
  • Partner with the Iowa PBS Foundation and external organizations on events, outreach initiatives and audience engagement activities.
  • Coordinate with communications, marketing, production, education and other teams to ensure consistent messaging and effective audience outreach.
  • Support Iowa PBS staff and talent participating in community events, presentations and public appearances.

Additional Duties

  • Provides writing, editing and proofreading support for network communications and materials. Reviews content for accuracy, clarity, grammar, style and alignment with Iowa PBS brand standards. Collaborates with communications staff and internal teams to develop, edit and refine content for internal and external audiences.
  • Support Iowa PBS’s mission to educate, inform, enrich and inspire the people of Iowa.
  • Travel statewide and occasionally out of state to support events and engagement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Six years of full-time work experience in the administration or operation/execution (i.e., providing consultation and/or technical assistance to stakeholders, research and analysis, or enforcement of program guidelines/policies/procedures) of a program (i.e., the provision of a service or an administrative oversight/enforcement responsibility).
  • All of the following (a and b):
  • A total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience; and
  • A total of two years of graduate-level education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Program Planner 1.
