Position Overview

The Division of Rehabilitation is seeking to hire a Staff Interpreter at the Illinois School for the Deaf to provide sign language interpreting services between deaf/hard of hearing persons and hearing persons, including those of a sensitive and confidential nature, for Superintendent and in individual group and large audience settings involving communication with parents, family members, agency administrators, legislators, other constituency groups, visitors, and a variety of professionals throughout the state. The Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) is the state’s leading division serving people with disabilities committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and racial justice.

Essential Functions
Provides sign language interpreting services between deaf/hard of hearing persons and hearing persons, including those of a sensitive and confidential nature, for Superintendent and in individual group and large audience settings involving communication with students, parents, family members, agency administrators, legislators, other constituency groups, visitors, and a variety of professionals throughout the state.
Provides sign language interpreting services for staff, students, and parents in scheduled meetings, during Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings & as requested for off campus courses.
Schedules interpreters for school events such as IEPs, domain meetings, in-service workshops, graduation, assemblies, etc.
Provides sign language interpreting services for training and in-service workshops.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scopes of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.
Requires a valid interpreter license in accordance with the interpreter for the Deaf Licensure Act of 2007 at the Advanced Proficiency License Level or Above as mandated by 68 Illinois Adminstrative Code Part 1515.
Requires one (1) year of experience in the fields of disabilities or behavioral health.
Conditions of Employment
Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
