Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician 5 for the Murray Developmental Center located in Centralia, Illinois to serve at a paraprofessional level in assisting the activity therapists in providing therapeutic activities for assigned individuals per prescribed schedules and habilitation plans. Observes individuals in daily living activities, notes and discusses problems with supervisor to determine problem areas, recommends treatment measures and carries out remedial programs developed by professional staff. Travels in the performance of duties.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves at a paraprofessional level in assisting the activity therapists in providing therapeutic activities for assigned individuals per prescribed schedules and habilitation plans.
- Observes individuals in daily living activities.
- Plans and prepares for activities in the community and on the living units.
- Under the professional guidance of the Activity Therapy Supervisor, orientates and trains facility volunteers.
- Provides information and confers with other paraprofessional and professional staff in Activity Therapy Departmental meetings.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of these enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to (1) two years college and successful completion of an approved training program or (2) completion of high school and one-year paraprofessional experience in, or applicable to the care, treatment, and habilitation of individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities and successful completion of an approved training program.

- Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
- Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekend and holidays.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
