Position Overview
The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Maintenance Equipment Operator for the Alton Mental Health Center located in Alton, Illinois to drive vehicles to transport forensic (95%) and civil (5%) patients to and from scheduled appointments. Operates truck and delivers food to civil (25%) and forensic (75%) living units. Washes, waxes, and sanitizes all hospital vehicles. Operates snow removal equipment to remove snow from roads and sidewalks. Picks-up and delivers mail. Secures worksite. Travels in performance of job duties.
Essential Functions
- Drives vehicles to transport forensic (95%) and civil (5%) patients to and from scheduled appointments, such as doctor visits, court appearance and drives discharged patients to specified discharge location.
- Operates truck and delivers food to both civil (25%) and forensic (75%) living units.
- Loads, unloads, and delivers equipment, general office supplies and personnel throughout the hospital grounds.
- Assists in the maintenance and minor repair of equipment.
- Washes, waxes, and sanitizes all hospital vehicles.
- Operates snow removal equipment to remove snow from roads and sidewalks.
- Secures worksite, equipment, and tools for patients’ safety.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires one (1) year’s experience in performing a variety of semiskilled mechanical and manual tasks in the maintenance and operations of automotive or related maintenance equipment.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires a valid class B commercial driver’s license with a passenger endorsement (CDL-P).
- Requires skill in the operation of maintenance or other automotive equipment.
- Requires the ability to use tools and perform semiskilled manual work.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
