Position Overview
The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Librarian I for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin, Illinois. Under general direction, performs specialized and professional duties in the facility's Forensic Treatment Program Library for patients and professional staff. Plans and administers public and technical services as well as collection development of the Forensic Library. Performs reference searches utilizing computerized databases; provides overall supervision of the Forensic Library and its resources, catalogs, selects and classifies library materials.
Essential Functions
- Performs specialized and professional duties in the facility's Libraries for patients and professional staff.
- Plans for the development and implementation of providing comprehensive library services.
- Plans and administers public and technical services as well as collection development of the libraries.
- Provides overall supervision of the Library and its resources, catalogs, selects and classifies library materials.
- Provides feedback information to appropriate treatment staff on patient usage and response to library service for incorporation into the treatment plan.
- Serves on facility and state-wide committees.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are normally within the scope of those duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a master’s degree in Library Science, history, information science, English, criminal justice, psychology, education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science.
- Three (3) years of professional experience planning and providing circulation of books, periodicals and other library materials for a public or private organization.
- Three (3) years of professional experience providing comprehensive library services for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of professional experience establishing circulation policies for a public or private organization.
- Two (2) years of professional experience in the acquisition, classification, cataloging and indexing principles, methods and techniques.
- Two (2) years of professional experience establishing, maintaining and directing efficiency library system or program.
- Two (2) years of professional experience supervising library and routine office functions.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to walk and stand for a significant period of time, including stooping, bending, lifting or exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
