Position Overview
This position is accountable for performing detailed tasks associated with designing and preparing plans and specifications for highway facility improvements.
Essential Functions
- Performs detailed layout and quantity calculations to ensure that plans are accurate and complete.
- Prepares accurate design layouts and detailed drawings in compliance with prescribed standards and specifications.
- Accomplishes assigned tasks in a timely manner to facilitate the letting of contracts on schedule.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience, OR six years of engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering in a relatively narrow range of functions.
- Working knowledge of mathematics and its application to project design, field surveying and engineering computational activities.
- Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office, CADD software and the ability to understand and apply tools within Microstation and Geopak.
- Ability to take direct charge of simple engineering projects within design standards.
- Good oral and/or written communication skills.
