The Idaho Department of juvenile Corrections (IDJC) is currently recruiting for a Registered Nurse, Manager (RN). This is a full-time position located at our facility in Lewiston, Idaho.

The RN Manager provides consultation and acts as a liaison between medical staff, program staff, community healthcare providers, and both in-state and out-of-state contracting partners. This position is also responsible for budgetary oversight, participation in policy and procedure development, and maintaining quality assurance programs to ensure the highest level of care for youth in IDJC custody.

The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections has regionalized state services for juveniles committed to its custody, making it possible for most juveniles to remain close enough to their communities so parents and other key community members can take part in the juvenile's treatment. State juvenile correctional centers are located in Lewiston, Nampa, and St. Anthony and provide a full complement of services for youth who range from 10 to 20 years of age.

This position reports directly to the Facility Administrator and works collaboratively with statewide and facility leadership to ensure the health, safety, and medical care of youth in custody.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Facility Health Authority, overseeing all medical operations, nursing services, and quality assurance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with IDAPA, state laws, and professional nursing standards.
  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate nursing services, policies, and procedures to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Supervise and provide leadership for licensed medical staff, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Conduct audits of medical records and documentation
  • Monitor and assist with pharmaceutical management of complex medication regimens and delivery of medications for youth.
  • Participate in long-range planning, budget management, and policy development related to medical services.
  • Maintain contact with physicians, community medical providers, and hospitals to ensure continuity of care for juveniles in IDJC custody.
  • Provide staff development, training, and education to ensure up-to-date clinical practices and certifications.
  • Oversee the accurate and complete maintenance of electronic medical records (EMR) and ensure all legal requirements and confidentiality standards are followed.
  • Conduct regular audits of juvenile medical records and review findings with the facility Medical Contract Provider.
  • Ensure timely scheduling and completion of immunizations, medical appointments, diagnostic tests, emergency visits, and hospitalizations.
  • Provide or coordinate emergency care as needed and assist with staff and juvenile medical training (CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, etc.).
  • Promote and model safe work practices and ensure all accidents, exposures, and illnesses are promptly reported per IDJC policy.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to support the physical and mental health of juveniles in custody.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the Statewide Administrator of Facility Operations, Regional Facility Administrator, or Director.
  • Supervision:
    • Supervises nursing and medical personnel assigned to the facility.
    • Conducts staff meetings, training, and performance evaluations.
    • Assigns and prioritizes work, evaluates staff performance, and develops performance improvement plans.
    • Identifies training needs and provides ongoing education to medical and direct care staff.
    • Promotes collaboration, teamwork, and professional growth within the nursing team.

Administration:

  • Oversees medical department budgets and assists in forecasting and cost control for healthcare operations.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors policies and procedures to ensure compliance with IDJC standards and applicable healthcare laws.
  • Participates in statewide quality improvement initiatives, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Ensures legal and ethical documentation, reporting, and handling of medical information.
  • Coordinates with other departments and external healthcare providers to ensure seamless medical care and continuity of services.
  • Maintains professional licensure and ensures staff licensure and certifications are current.
  • Assists in developing emergency response and infection control protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse in Idaho as defined by Idaho Code 54-1408 or licensed under the Nurse Licensure Compact (Idaho Code 54-1418) in one of the following compact states:
  • Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Wisconsin.
  • Good knowledge of supervisory practices and leadership principles.
  • Experience assessing nursing practices for compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards and recommending appropriate action.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a juvenile justice or correctional facility setting.
  • Experience in healthcare administration, clinical supervision, or nursing management.
  • Experience conducting staff training or educational programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and electronic medical record systems.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED (required at the time of hire or within designated timeframe).
  • Familiarity with Performance-based Standards (PBS) and healthcare quality assurance practices.
