This recruitment is being conducted under the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative featuring an expedited hiring process, fast-tracking qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawai’i.

Salary: $3,606 to $4,563 per month (SR-11, Step C to I)

Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Duties Summary

Under general supervision, performs fairly complex sub-professional duties and/or supervises pest control aid in support of higher-level professional pest control activities; and performs other duties as required.

Note: May be required to work overtime which may include weekends and/or holidays. May be required to travel for work, training, meetings or workshops. The work performed occurs primarily inside the laboratory and the incumbent may be exposed to strong odors, fumes, gases, and will work with hazardous chemicals and regulated chemicals. Duties performed will involve wearing personal protective equipment. Will be required to use microscopes and microtools for long periods of time with breaks. Incumbent will be required to manipulate insects and related arthropods for preparation for identification and curation which will require the ability to use fine tools with technical dexterity. The employee will at times work outdoors under various types of conditions, such as, rough terrain, inclement weather, biting insects, and other outdoor hazards. Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 127A-8, all state and county officials, officers, and employees are considered “emergency workers” and shall perform functions as determined by their respective state or county department director during emergencies or disasters.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants will be placed on the eligible list for ALL levels for which they are qualified .

Legal Authorization To Work Requirement

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

General Experience: THREE (3) years of progressively responsible work experience which required the ability to read, comprehend and apply written instructions; follow oral directions; and exercise a high degree of verbal skills.

Specialized Experience: TWO (2) yearsof work experience in insect or plant pest control involving the use of standard laboratory procedures in propagating host insects or plants and the collecting and recording of data.

Non-Qualifying Experience: Experience in a laboratory which involved only the caring for supplies and equipment, e.g., washing test tubes and other laboratory equipment, will NOT be considered qualifying .
