Architect IV - $8,061 to $9,232 per month (AR-24, Step D to I)

Architect  V - $8,706 to $9,971 per month (AR-26, Step D to I)

The notice of the last day to file applications will be posted on the Civil Service Hawaii State Government Jobs page of our website.Architects in the State government are primarily responsible for the planning and designing of new construction, and the alteration, rehabilitation or restoration of existing buildings and facilities such as public schools, health, social services and higher education facilities and general government buildings.

Architect Level IV  
Performs professional architectural work in the development of designs, plans, specifications, estimates and reports for all types of public buildings and structures; may supervise the work of lower-level architects and draftsmen assigned to assist on complex projects; and performs other duties as required.

Architect Level V  
Performs difficult and responsible professional architectural work in preparing and/or supervising the preparation of architectural designs, plans, specifications, estimates and report; and performs other duties as required.To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


Professional License: Applicants for must possess a valid State of Hawaii Professional Architect license at the time of application.

Education: A bachelor's degree in architecture or architectural engineering from an accredited university.

Architectural Experience:
Professional architectural work experience in developing and preparing complete designs, drawings, specifications, estimates of buildings, structure, and installations. Is comprised of the performance of the recognized architectural functions based on the requiring a thorough knowledge and application of the basic physical, mathematical and architectural sciences to the solution of theoretical or practical architectural problems.

  Level IV:          Three (3) years of work experience performing journeyman-level architect,
                         involving performance of the full range of professional architectural activity;
                         assume responsibility for major and complex architectural projects; and works
                         under the general supervision of an architect or engineer of higher level.

Level V:            Four (4) years of professional work experience and performs difficult and
                         responsible professional architectural work in preparing and/or supervising
                         the preparation of architectural designs, plans, specifications, estimates
                         and reports, and performs other related duties as assigned.
At least one (1) year of the required architectural experience must have been 
comparable to the Architect IV level in the state service as a licensed
 professional

Supervisory Aptitude:  Applicants for Level V must demonstrate aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; or by the completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; and/or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required for some positions. For these positions, applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. The immediate vacancy has this requirement.
