Minimum Requirements

A high school diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of experience in laboratory work; or

College or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience provided such education includes three courses in the physical and/or natural sciences.

Job Duties

Assists a regional identifier from the USDA with laboratory screening of moth specimens collected from the field using approved dissection techniques.

Conducts insect (moth) trapping and surveillance in agricultural fields, community gardens, packing houses, etc. Deploys and monitors traps, collects biological samples in the field, sample submission, trap maintenance.

Accurately records and organizes field and lab data. Sends out reports.

Performs other tasks as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of insect classification and use of a dissecting microscope.
  • Ability to work independently and manage data.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. and bend repetitiously.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, and humid environments.
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground and in inclement weather.
