OPS Health Information Specialist

 

This is an Other Personal Services (OPS) position working 28 hours per week at the Department of Health in Lee County.

 

The Health Information Specialist in this position reports to the Operations and Management Consultant Manager SES and works closely with all medical records activities.  The Health Information Specialist performs specialized clerical work, which requires independent decision-making.  Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Department of Health Information Security and Privacy Policy procedures.  Employee abides by State/Federal laws governing health information.  This is a position which may require coverage at other locations including evening hours as mandated by the Supervisor or designee. This position has access to applicable information required to perform the job.

 

Records Management

  • Responsible for proper and timely release of information (ROI). 
  • Performs correspondence duties, including but not limited to completion of the electronic correspondence log, following the DOH Information Security and Privacy Policy.
  • Completes the disclosure log in the patient’s electronic health record.
  • Reviews consents and authorizations for release of information for completion and follows established Security and Privacy Policy.
  • Notifies and work in conjunction with the Health Information Specialist Supervisor on special requests. 
  • Completes third party audits in a timely manner.
  • Performs scanning of Employee Health

 

Clerical

  • Monitors faxes related to the disclosure of confidential information.
  • Performs scanning of Electronic Health Record (EHR) documents.
  • Analyzes and evaluates reported duplicates and performs merge/purge procedures.

 

Miscellaneous Duties

  • Participates in the closure of inactive medical records.
  • Participates with special projects as the need arises, performs miscellaneous related work as required.

 

Job Enrichment    

  • Attends required meetings and trainings and remain current of all policies and protocols.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience working in an office, customer service, or clerical environment
  • Experience using computers and basic office software (email, data entry systems, etc.)
