Position Overview And Responsibilities

The Environmental Supervisor IV-SES, 37020889, is in the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration’s Chemistry Program, Nutrients section, in Tallahassee and will be responsible for managing a subset of chemistries and 9 career service team members within the Nutrients group. The manager serves as technical expert in their area of responsibility and reviews, troubleshoots, and approves analytical data critical for the assessment of water quality and restoration projects for the State of Florida.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

1 . Knowledge of management principles and techniques

  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques of chemical research, analysis or testing.
  • Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in laboratory testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
  • Skill in the use of scientific laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to collect, record, and analyze scientific data relating to chemistry.
  • Ability to conduct chemical research tests and analyses using scientific methods and techniques.
  • Ability to perform quantitative analysis of scientific data.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately review analytical data to meet turnaround goals.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assigns work, and ensures proper completion of work assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to keep accurate research records.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to the science of chemistry.

  • Ability to supervise technical staff effectively to meet assigned objectives.

  • Ability to participate in the afterhours laboratory freezer/refrigerator alarm monitoring.

M Inimum Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of verifiable related experience in environmental sciences, natural sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, engineering sciences, or engineering. Post-secondary degrees from an accredited college or university with a major in environmental sciences, natural sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, engineering sciences, or engineering may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. Must have 1 year of experience as a supervisor, coordinator, project manager, program manager, team lead, team trainer, or have completed relevant managerial/leadership training.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Occasional overnight travel.
  • A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.

Position Of Special Trust Requirement

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

Pay
