Position Overview and Responsibilities:

This is an intermediate environmental position responsible for monitoring and supporting state and county governments (local programs) contracted to perform sites management for cleanup of petroleum contaminated sites. Reviews assigned local program’s contract work product for technical adequacy and conformance with Chapter 62-780, F.A.C. and applicable Department guidance and procedures. Serves as the Department liaison with assigned local programs contract offices by providing ongoing guidance, clarification, updates and training regarding the Petroleum Restoration Program. 

  • Monitors and tracks performance of assigned local programs to ensure that they are reviewing and processing reports, scopes of work, task assignments and other necessary documents within established time constraints and are updating STCM and OCULUS. Reviews documents and/or contacts appropriate parties to ensure compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Responds to inquiries from government, private firms, and the public concerning programs/program activities. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of contamination assessment and remediation.
  • Skill in using personal computers for word processing and/or data management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of professionals.
  • Ability to plan and organize a complex workload.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret scientific data.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least four years of verifiable related experience in engineering, environmental science or one of the natural sciences. Post-secondary degrees from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, environmental science or one of the natural sciences may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Travel is required.

 

 

Position of Special Trust Requirement:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

 

 

Applicable Job-Specific License or Certifications:

OSHA Training successfully completed within six months of employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of regulatory inspection/compliance/permitting or other related experience
  • Knowledge of physical and natural sciences.
  • Knowledge of Statutes, Rules and Regulations.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to contracted staff within the petroleum program on complex petroleum contamination projects.

 

 

Pay:

Annual Salary Range: $47,350.08 - $48,000.12
