Position Overview and Responsibilities:

The Environmental Specialist I position, 37020087, is in the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration’s Chemistry Program, Organics/Gas Chromatography Group, in Tallahassee. The incumbent works as a Chemist and will be responsible for preparation of environmental samples for priority organic pollutants, pesticides, herbicides, and other related compounds of interest to agency programs. This position is critical to satisfying ongoing demands for analyses necessary to support water quality impairment decisions and providing support for other customers, both within and outside the Department of Environmental Protection.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and procedures of work in a chemical laboratory.

Knowledge of data collection principles and procedures.

Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), data reporting and record keeping protocols.

Ability to prepare technical reports.

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulation, policies, and procedures related to environmental programs.

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to utilize problem solving techniques.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of verifiable related experience in chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences. Post-secondary degrees from an accredited college or university with a major in chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.

This position requires Medical Monitoring.

 

 

Pay:
