Brief Description of Duties and Responsibilities:

This position serves as the data analyst and consultant to the Deputy Commissioner - Market Regulation.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to use statistical theories, programming skills, and quantitative analysis to develop outputs to assist the Market Regulation units and the agency. This includes:

  • Providing timely, high-level insurance market data to the Deputy Commissioner - Market Regulation.
  • Assist in the review of data calls, processes, communications, templates, and data dissemination.
  • Works with Market Research & Technology Unit, Property & Casualty Financial Oversight, and Communications to prepare catastrophe claims data for dissemination.
  • Works in conjunction with both Property & Casualty and Life & Health Market Regulation units to make recommendations for an overall data strategy and process improvements.
  • Provides consultation and support services on process improvement, data governance, and data analysis.
  • Participates in organizational reviews to streamline current or the development of new systems and processes.
  • Analyzes gathered data and develops solutions or alternative methods of proceeding.
  • Designs, recommends and monitors changes to ensure successful functioning of newly implemented systems, processes and/or procedures.
  • Reviews programs, services forms and reports; confers with management and users to identify and resolve problems. Prepares manuals and trains staff in the use of applications and procedures per policy.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of basic management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document workflow, and other relating to the improvement of management practices.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials.
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding research.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

The starting annual salary for this position is $60,000.

The work hours for this position will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.

This is a non-remote, on-site position located in Tallahassee, FL.

Preference will be given to applicants with two or more years of experience working with data analytics
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in graphic design or creation of graphics
Preference will be given to applicants with experience writing, editing and/or proofreading documents for external publication.
Preference will be given to applicants with skill in the use of Tableau or other data analytic platforms.

Applicants will be required to complete an exam or work sample to evaluate their insurance knowledge and skills in reading, comprehension, and application of the Florida Statutes.
