- Engineering tools to perform field inspections of worksites for compliance to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) roadway standards
- Communicating technical information verbally and in writing;

- Must also obtain the Advanced Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) certification and the Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector certification (Florida Department of Environmental Protection through the Stormwater, Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Training Program) within one year and maintain it.
- Valid Class E Driver License is required.
- All herbicide applicators shall be licensed by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs in three areas: core curriculum, right-of-way, and aquatics. The Department will allow an employee under the direct supervision of a licensed applicator to train and gain experience for a period not to exceed twelve months, after which they shall be licensed.
- This position requires the incumbent to complete the following self-study courses within 11 months of appointment: Construction Math and Plans Reading.
- While on-duty status, may be required to drive a state owned or leased vehicle to perform the duties of this position.
- The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
- May be required to work with or around hazardous materials; work nights and weekends and be available for emergency response work as necessary.
- High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency, Class E Driver’s License, and 12 months of infrastructure design, construction, or maintenance experience; or an associate degree or higher.
This position requires a valid Class E driver’s license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:
- three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
- any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
- a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
- a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
