POSITION HIGHLIGHTS Full-time, 40 hours per week Tuesday – Saturday Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 7:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - 6:15 p.m. Saturday: 7:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Location:� Wethersfield, CT Office/On-Site� THE ROLE As a Motor Vehicle Examiner Specialist: You will use your expertise in issuing identity documents, registrations, titles, and performing core examiner functions to support and strengthen operations across the state. You will contribute to developing training materials, updating procedures, and improving daily operations through clear communication and collaboration. You will play a key role in training new staff, providing refresher instruction to experienced staff, and ensuring consistent, high quality service in every branch.� You may occasionally travel to branch offices to deliver hands on training, offer on site support, and help resolve procedural or operational issues.� You may occasionally work the counter in the Wethersfield Branch Office or other nearby locations to�maintain your proficiency, model best practices and guide new staff through real time transactions. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Motor Vehicles this class is accountable for independently performing a combination of duties in registration and licensing functions.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Examines and reviews forms for completeness, accuracy, legibility, and conformance with regulations; Determines if transactions are subject to sales and use tax and computes amounts due; Verifies proof of ownership and/or existence of encumbrances on all applications such as motor vehicle, motorcycle, bus, truck, camper, boat and miscellaneous vehicle registrations; Examines certificates of title and other documents and supporting data; Issues motor vehicle registrations; Determines if transactions are new, transfers, class transfers or record transfers and processes accordingly; Utilizes automotive manuals for verification of details on registrations; Examines current suspension file to verify eligibility of applicants to receive registrations and/or operator licenses; Answers questions from general public on laws, regulations, procedures and official motor vehicle forms; Collects taxes and/or fees, balances cash records and prepares deposits; Operates and responsible for security of assigned equipment, supplies and receipts; Performs related duties as required.� BRANCH OFFICES: Deals directly with general public, performs limited restorations of driver’s licenses or motor vehicle registrations; Issues boat registrations and toll plates; May perform photo licensing activities; Performs related duties as required. CENTRAL OFFICES: Performs as a unit specialist examining registration and title applications forwarded from branch and other areas for completeness, accuracy, legibility and conformance with Connecticut State Statutes prior to final approval for issuance of documents; Researches title history on vehicles; Works with DMV inspectors and/or local and state enforcement agencies; Determines compliance with motor vehicle “brands” from other jurisdictions and applies them to Connecticut Certificate of Titles; Issues Connecticut duplicate title certificates; Issue ownership documents related to abandoned motor vehicles; Researches insurance compliance issues and disputes; Processes payments of civil penalties and fee adjustments; May research stolen vehicles; Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Knowledge of the functions and activities of the Department of Motor Vehicles; Skills interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; Ability to maintain records; examine documents for completeness, accuracy and compliance with established requirements; read, understand and apply motor vehicle laws, regulations, policies and procedures; handle and count money; perform arithmetical computations; operating various types of office equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years of clerical experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have involved the issuance of official documents requiring the examination of applications and supporting documentation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years. One (1) year as a Motor Vehicle Examiner may be substituted for the General and Special Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working in a DMV branch office, involving the issuance of official credentials and examining legal documents Experience serving as a point of contact or representative for an organization, including communicating information, responding to inquiries, or coordinating with partners Experience working independently while meeting deadlines and managing workload Experience working in team settings to accomplish established project goals Experience with DMV Branch Operating systems, transaction processing software, and office technology Experience independently monitoring appointment systems and managing workflow to help reduce customer wait times Experience providing presentations, briefing, training, coaching, or onboarding staff in operational procedures or customer service tasks Experience using conflict-resolution techniques to address workplace issues Experience drafting and editing documents, including guidance, procedures, or technical information

CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS
